Default Working on a 88 XJ

Is there anyone here who works on older XJ's, in the Dallas area?

I live in Carrollton and would like to have mine worked on. I am too slow and not completley mechanical.
There are to many things that I don't know.
I am trying to restore mine.

I have an '88. One year, I failed smog. Took a bit to get it to pass, but I passed. They are a state certified smog test and repair station. When I asked them if they had or knew of someone who could work on these, he replied "You mean, beside you?"

What condition is it in now? What kind of things are you looking to do?

You might look at some local "off road" or 4-Wheel clubs.

Post some pics!

If you're looking to restore it, you need to either have deep pockets or learn some new skills (probably both). On the plus side, this is a great forum for getting help if you do.

I copied your thread and added it to your "neighborhood". Here's a link. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f38/

If you buy an old XJ or any older Jeep for that matter... If you're not mechanically inclined... research, watch videos, ask.... Our old XJs are actually not that bad to work on yourself for darn near every part of it. Not like these new cars with 50 miles of wiring just to turn on the left turn-signal. lol. And generally are not nearly as expensive to buy parts for either.
My advice is don't be scared of it just because you don't know how to do it. Start with the smaller tasks for it... and after you complete each one, you'll feel more confident to take on the next one yourself. That's how we all learn.

Me too !, did a small overhaul on the engine. got it all put back together and " no power"! I'm still trying to figure that out! let me know if you find someone. I've got the Bible for the 88' and I just about know every Nut and Bolt but I can't figure this "no power" out. Thanx

So I was not able to find anyone.
I am doing it myself, very slow work, one piece at a time.
I have been using SEM paint for the interior, this stuff is not very good, chips and peels easy, and it is very expensive.
If I wasn't so far along, I would switch to Rustoleum 2X.
