looking for a junked 96-99 5spd 4x4
To whomever may read this, i'm looking to make my '99 2wd 5spd into a 4x4 5spd, and need everything from the trans to the wheel studs.
i've been looking on craigslist a good bit, find a few here and there but they're usually gone, or no response from the owner.
so, i guess my big question is, anyone know right off hand of any houston area junkyards with XJ's i could have a look at?
i know i could start with just swapping the axles from a more common automatic, (and get slightly higher gears in the process), and as far as the trans/transfer case, it may be tough to find AX15/231-242 from an XJ, but i know a 5spd 4x4 dakota trans/transfer will bolt up to my bellhousing, so that gives me another option.
i understand a TJ/YJ trans/transfer will bolt up but the transfer will hit the body, or need some adapter to change it's clock relative to the trans, so that's another option.
i just wonder, how far off is the TJ/YJ trans/transfer, especially if i'm running a 96-99 high pinion D30? if it just needs a couple swings from a BFH, then that is another option.
