Can anybody help me before I give up and sell the Jeep?
I have been replacing parts on my jeep lately like its my job. It has alot of new parts and typical things done to it. Anyways onto the good stuff.
Its my birthday today and i just got home from a friends house and I am just about fed up with my Jeep and about a few heartbeats from selling it. It has me to the point of where I am literally broke. My rear end decided to give out on me and now im back to the drawing table. If anyone can help me out and sell me a cheap rear axle complete I would really appreciate it and help keep a jeeper in the game. I will say that i love jeeps and I have always wanted one but this one has me almost to the point of giving up and just selling it. It would kill my heart to do so but with it swallowing every nickle, dime, penny and dollars i have i just want to quit. So in that case I just want to buy a cheap rear axle assembly if possible and install it so i can stay in the game and be happy. Thanks!

Well my axle is a dana 35 and the problem i have is whatever gear i put my transmission into i could hear just some really bad grinding from the pumpkin part and my jeep would not move. Got a buddy to get in and put it in gear and i saw that my drive shaft was spinning and just a horrible grinding was all to be heard of. Finally got to tear it down a few minutes ago and i looked it over and it seems the problem wasn't as bad as i figured. Pinion is in tact and so is my ring gear with the spider gears. Turns out my pesky inner axle bearings decided to give in. I can grab a hold of the carrier and just move it in any direction i want to. Should be fixing it early tomorrow hopefully and i will be back into the game.
And I know you do posjeepxj. I love the idea that there is some really great people that live close to me willing to give me a hand and help me out. So if what i think the problem is and i get it fixed cheaply im going to be giving you a PM about getting a head start on that back bumper if you could. Thanks for all the help man!

I just have never swapped a whole axle out before and idk how much of a hassle it would be. Would it be a complete bolt in thing? Or would i have to modify some things? And as far as i know i was told my jeep has 3.55 gearing.

^^ This.
It'll cost more money in labor (you cant setup a R&P) to repair that D35 than it would to pick up a nice used 8.35 with matching ratio. 8.25's can be picked up for a hundred or cheaper all day long.
And it's a signifigant upgrade in strength.

I had to shorten my drive shaft because the dana 35 has a shorter nose than the 8.25. that is one thing to look for but there are ways around that. I found that the swap was pretty easy and the hardest part was putting the break lines on. I took 5/8 of an inch out of my drive shaft and it works great. i had a drive line shop do the shortening and they put new u joints in and it cost 160. You also need new u bolts because the 8.25 has larger axel tubes. Its really not that hard and can be done in a day if you plan it all out and do your research and get all the parts your gona need to do the swap.
good luck and happy jeepin

Well I live in grinnell IA an if any of you guys would like to come down and give me a hand that would be awesome and very much appreciated. Have tomorrow some what planned out. Waking up early and heading to a junkyard if POS does not get back to me soon. Starting on it before i go to work and continuing after i get off. Hoping to have my jeep back in the game by tomorrow.

when you go to the junk yard and if you can find a 8.25 with the same gears and the same transfercase and same tranny as you, you should take the driveshaft as well. At least find the same gears, the drive shaft you have can work if you have a lift. get new wider u bolts to fit the new axel tubes. and if you take all the breaks and lines then you should be able to do this is a short amount of time. Putting all the lines on and breaks takes a bit of time and it sounds like you have a limited amount. the bolt patern is the same for the wheels and I was able to use my old leaf spring bolt plates as well. I would take everything from drum to drum and break lines and, if you can, the driveshaft.
