Where is a good place to go shooting/Denver area.
A buddy of mine wants to buy a handgun. I convinced him that he should try out my different ones to see what style/caliber he likes before trying to buy one.
We want to combine a wheeling trek with some safe target shooting.
For those of you who target shoot, where do you usually go that's legal to shoot.
Looking somewhere west of Denver, not more that an hour and a half away/preferably combined with a good trail we can run also.........

If you're shooting handguns only and want an actual range where you can rent pistols:
The firing line in Aurora, off of potomac and colfax or something

The silver bullet http://www.silverbulletshootingrange.com/location.htm
If you are looking to join a range: The cherry creek gun club (pistols only), it's $200/year or something, but it's private and has 24/7 access, you must be a member of the NRA. It's real nice

Also there is the cherry creek range if you want to shoot more than just pistols:

Or you can go anywhere in the national forest (that isn't closed to shooting) you can check where the national forest is closed to shooting online. You have to be 150yds from the road, can't shoot across the road or across bodies of water, and can only shoot man-made targets, like cardboard or clay pigeons. No coffee cans and things like that (no trees, even dead ones). If you pack it in, pack it out and pack out any other trash that others may have left. Also, no tracers. Bring a fire extinguisher just in case **** gets crazy.
There have been a few "shooting-spots" in the forest that have been closed because people trash them and shoot down trees and whatnot. One of my favorite spots was closed down a few years ago. I'm worried that my alternate spot will be as well. A popular spot is left-hand canyon, but it is extremely busy. It's the closest spot I know of with good places to shoot, it's about 40min from boulder or so.

I second what mr White says about Left Hand except during weekdays it is not so busy. However it's dangerous and people trash it. I live a mile or so from there shoot up there all the time. I am a member of the four corners gun club down in Cortez but that is quite the drive.

Have you tried to purchase ammo lately? I'm postponing any recreational shooting for a while.

I have quite a bit of surplus of a few different calibers.
I bought a bunch while I was still in Arizona before I moved up here.
Even if I bring enough for a few hours of fun practice, I'll still have plenty for home defense if needed.............

I know its a little further than you want, but we usually go out to Pawnee grasslands. Around Nunn colorado. Its about a half hour drive from my house in ftc.
Same as was stated above, tons of public land, used to get trashed bad. Now its just a brass graveyard. We take out paper targets. There are tons of natural burms so take your pick.
There's some beautiful scenery out there and lots of roads to drive on. Its about 60/30 miles of openess. It gets busy on the weekends so you might have to drive a lil deeper in. Also sometimes it gets very windy, so try and check into it before ya go.
