Hayden Pass, CO: anyone know the condition after the last year's forest fire??
I was hoping to cross the Sangra De Cristo range via Hayden Pass and then cross it again further south at Madeno Pass (in the great sand dunes erea)
But apparently a large section, maybe half of the trail, of Hayden Pass was caught in the Hayden Pass Fire.
Does anybody know if this trail is doable this year?

I called the ranger for the district (Salida) and he informed me that the road is indeed open both ways but it's a little "rutted out" (that's the term he used) from all the moisture. He said go for it!
And it's been snow free as of June 5th: https://wcc.sc.egov.usda.gov/nwcc/view
And the nearby dirtbike trail "rainbow trail" is now prohibited: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE...eprd520623.pdf
It's amazing what you can find out online but it still doesn't beet calling the ranger

Update:
I crossed Hayden Pass last weekend and there was no trail damage at all, it was great! Way steeper than I thought it would be though but it was amazing and I highly recommend it
