trails and members in northern utah?

Any members around the bountiful area? Also aside from the "B" and Skyline drive, are there any other decent trails? What about in the tooele area? A buddy of mine was telling me about middle canyon road and some abandoned mining facilities near Stockton that I'd like to check out.

I live in Tooele and there are tons of trails out here, the abandoned mine is called Jacob City, and it is OK for a easy dirt road type trail, there is a back way that is slightly more challenging but if you want some more challenging terrain all around and a great adventure, head up Ophir Canyon its south of Stockton, turn onto SR73 from SR36, and its at the top of the grade after the road veer right, not sure how far you can get this time of year, but there are some excellent trails up there, you can even get to Jacob City going the back way if you want, go past the little town up there and it turns to dirt shortly past, a little ways up and there are some are ATV type trails to the right over a bridge, I got my XJ even when bone stock up all of them just fine during hunting season. Once you get up on top there are five or six different tails that will take you all over up there, and I have never seen more than 1 or two people in an entire day up there, so you will most likely have it to yourself. Plus if you get bored, 5 Mile is only 15 minutes away and there is Rattlesnake and Wayne's World up there and tons of other stuff, but be prepared for company as it is usually full of Jeepers. Try Ophir Canyon, and don't tell too many people about it. Of course now that I posted this here, EVERYONE will know...LOL.

I live in Magna as well. We will have to meet up sometime. I'd consider myself a Northern UT backcountry expert. My main focus is Tooele County right now, I have never made it all the way through Ophir Canyon Loop... It is only dry for 1-2 months per year, therefore the mud up there is INSANE, an inexperienced off roader could find themselves in some serious trouble.. By far the closest spot to wheel to Magna, is Bates Canyon. It is just east of Erda you can get there in 15 minutes by heading towards Tooele, but exiting E on Bates Canyon Rd. There is a nice sand pit and a 3 mile loop with great views of the GSL and Tooele Valley.

For sure! Bates canyon sounds fun. What do you drive? Maybe I've seen you around.

i think ill be trying it as soon as they open up the gates! ive hiked it before, and i see a lot of atvs on the trail, i cant really remember how bad the roads were and if a jeep could do it..... i havent quite built up my confidence in my new rig yet.

Xcessive May 23, 2014 09:03 AM

Lol. Yeah, I'm still working out some issues with my white jeep. I'm hoping that this weekend I can finally get the new brake lines on and I need to pull a leaf out of the rear springs to get it to come down about an inch. After that I should be good to go do let me know when you want to go up and I'll tag along.
