Towing with my 1989 Jeep Cherokee
I need some opinions people.
I have a 1989 jeep Cherokee 4.0, 4x4, auto trans with 250k on it but she runs like a scared rabbit. I just drove here from CO to AZ and back, a total of 1700 miles round trip. She purred like a kitten climbing through the passes and what not..and that was with the AC cranked. AND I got an overall 20 mpg! Hell yeah!
Ok gents..and ladies....and beer guzzlers... I now have to make the trip again... but only a one way trip starting at Colorado Springs, CO and ending in Mohave Valley, AZ, an approx distance of 800 miles or so.
I am renting a 6x12 Uhaul trailer and will load it with approx 1000 pounds of stuff and junk (tools, ex-wife corpse and beer)
Do you think my Jeep can get me to AZ?
Should I use the auto tow button that is a tranny accessory for this year? ( I have never used that sucker)
Should I keep it out of OD while climbing hills?
As before I will have an extra T-stat, antifreeze and an extra serpentine belt on hand and some tools as well.
Thoughts?

Always run it in the Power mode on the trans.
Do you have a trans cooler?
It should shift right down out of OD on hills all by itself.

Changes the shift points so it winds out a bit more in each gear. Shifts down sooner when under a load. They eliminated that stupid Comfort mode in mid 91 after realizing it was obnoxious and saved no fuel.
