Wilson or k40 all the way, firesticks are just a cheap poor antenna. Kinda like kraco is for the cb worlds. They work but by no means are good.
And I'm no master just have used many different types and done a little research. Chandler knows more than I do but that's the truckers side of him

K40 is by far is one of the best antenna on the market. Only time I don't run one is on the Yota. I have broken too many to justify the cost. And adding a spring, takes away receiving and transmitting power.
Tuning and antenna placement are more important then people think. Just like if you mount it to your bumper, your vehicle blocks most of the antenna. Radio waves can't get through metal very well. Of course line of sight gives you the best reception with nothing in the way.

Only 3? I was getting nearly 15 out of my dual k40's and Galaxy 959 radio. Though it was in Texas.
Dual antennas only work well when they are 6 feet or more apart. They help alittle in receiving, but are mostly good for transmitting. It increases the front and back areas, then the sides. At least on a semi that is lol. Also helps with that line of sight thing as well.

tell him to run a single k40 or wilsona and he'll do better. 3 miles isn't that good especially with a side band radio..
