Default Coolant in the Oil

Hi All,

I'm just looking for some input. I'm a car girl, but not entirely knowledgeable so I may say some stupid things. Just correct me I bought a 2000 Cherokee 2 months ago. Long story short, shortly after purchasing it I noticed a massive coolant leak. No coolant on the ground, no coolant in the bay, and for about a month, no coolant in the oil. Then, checked the oil 3 days after getting an oil change and it was milky. Hailey has been sitting ever since.

Before I saw the milky oil, I did some research and read that it seems to be a known issue that a late 90s/early 00s head stamped with 0331 cracks between the 2nd and 3rd cylinders. Since I/my boyfriend haven't/hasn't torn into it yet, I'm not sure if it's the head or the gasket. Boyfriend has experience with VWs, Datsuns, Toyotas and probably other misc engine rebuilds, but he's unsure about possibly replacing a head on a Jeep. If I had wanted to sell it, I would have already so I'm pretty attached. Does this seem like a project we can take on or should I give it up?

Any ideas or comments are greatly helpful! Thanks

you will most likely need another mode of transportation for a few days but i think you should be able to tackle it. expecially if your boyfriend already knows his way around an engine bay.
heres a video that might be of interest.

Thanks! I've been driving another car around for the last month, so the alternate mode of transportation isn't a huge problem

if it can be done in a 17 minute Youtube video, its easy. My friend and I pulled a 4.0 head at the junkyard in less than half an hour, these engines are super easy to work on.
Where in CO are you at? we have tons of jeep guys around here that I am sure have spare time to help

X2. Its pretty easy but its time consuming for the first go around. Remember to use a breaker bar and label the sensor wires.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the input. I'm in Westminster, but the jeep is parked in Loveland until I figure out what I want to do.

I'm in Westminster. I have a friend who knows his way around jeeps and may be able to help me out over winter break. Fingers crossed!
