Howdy, anyone from AZ? Can you recommend Off-road trails / off-road paths for road adventuring. I will be visiting there in January next year to see my brother residing in Phoenix.
Thanks in advance.

Theres a ton of awesome trails within AZ. Give us some details of what kind of rig you'll be using, and where you'll be stayin (which city) and how far your willing to drive to get to some trails

Sorry for the delay, I was struck down by Malaria.
Anyhoo,
My Brother and I will be using his Yamaha ATV's and he lives in Phoenix. But we're looking to travel around the state for that off-roading experience.

well if you want to go all around the state, a must see place is sedona. Then theres box canyon, martienze mine/cabin, coke ovens, they are relativly close by. About an hour drive and all in the same general area

Go to barnes and noble and pick up an Arizona 4x4 trail book. namely this one:
it is a great book that covers the entire state and has GPS and road directions as well as maps and reviews

I agree that is a great book for OHV trails and possibly the best when ease of use is taken into consideration with included gps coordinates but it really doesn't cover much of eastern AZ. Charles avoided any trails east of the tonto natl forest, skipping sitgreaves and apache alltogether. there are many trails to explore in that region.. Payson, Mogollon Rim, Show Low, Pinetop, Greer, Springerville?!? thats where we always go to escape the heat & for great trout fishing during the summer months. I guess it could be partially due to the fact much of that area is designated native american land but the trails up there are indeed plentiful and accessible. i also carry the AZ atlas and gazetteer when headed east:

If your willing to travel, Tucson has some good trails. Up in reddington pass there are a bunch of trails to get lost on. If you want to go even further, i was just down at lake pleasant. It was beautiful down around there.

My wife and I bought a trailer in the apache junction/Mesa area I am leaving my locked, lifted, regeared, offroad only xj at home and bought a stock 98 xj to leave there. I met a neighbor who happens to have a 98 xj as his daily driver. I'm not expecting to modify this xj as I want to maintain it as a dd when in AZ. I will build a front bumper so it has decent extraction points on the front. Not sure if I should add the winch plate or if I'll need it. So here's my questions is there a local group to go with and would I need the winch. Does anyone have a site I should join to watch for runs or people to connect with.
