Another new guy in AZ

Just moved to Mayer, got a few off road toys but got this XJ yesterday. Can't wait to hit the Bradshaws in the next few weeks and find my way around. Now I can take the dogs, my wife can come too and I'll have somebody to worry. Crawled up a hill yesterday that had her plastered against the door with her eyes closed.

She'll get used to it......https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...5be3df65db.jpg

Once I get rolling I'll look you up. I got a couple of bumpers coming and I really want to try to soften up the suspension somehow. We just ran out to cleator yesterday and it'll shake the truck apart on those roads. Do you know if anyone airs down for the hardpack? It's not half bad on the asphalt. Next week we'll have 4 people in it and see if a little weight helps. The lift is pretty new, a few hundred miles, so I'm hoping it loosens up on it's own.

Muley it may just need to break in overtime. I find myself complaining because my lift is so soft, but it's probably as old as the jeep itself.

Adventuring still on hold for a while - We put Smittybuilt XRC bumpers on front and rear over the weekend. What a PITA. Found a nick in the belt while I was under there, and worse than that, snapped off one of the bolts to the steering box. I'm not sure I want to deal with that lying on my back in the dirt, I'm just too old for that stuff. I think I'll bring it to the local mechanic here and let him do it. Company coming tomorrow and they want to see Crown King, so I'll just ease it up there and back, hope for the best and bring tools. I'll deal with the belt today.

Stiff ride turned out to be 35lbs in the tires, way better at 20, got the bumpers and the winch on with some old school lights and I'm getting an alignment.

Sunday driving, looking for Horsethief Lake, turns out the road is closed, still quite a bit of snow and ice up there and it's been real warm.https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...285b069c75.jpg

Sunday driving.

Man there's some great places to go real close to me. I went up to Poland yesterday then 5 corners, around to Walker and Potato Patch, (I know) then out Senator past the warning signs, past the road closed sign, (just past golden eagle) then finally got smart and turned around. When they say closed I should know better. Even on Walker road there was about 16" of snow in some places, I had to cross the stream by Hassayampa lake and jump up on a 6" ice ledge to get out of the water. I came back on Forest trail 261 I think, past the trail for the Mount Union summit, and I couldn't believe they call that a road, Poland Road the sign said. Big time rocks, I had to back up a couple of times to check out my path, there's some real big drops off the back side of boulders that are tough to see going down hill. By far the toughest trail I've been up or down so far. Jeep did fine, I get nervous when we push snow and the front wheels drift to the outside edge, it's a long way down if you slip over. A touch of throttle pulls it back from the edge but I really didn't want to go any faster. A nice slow drive when it's dry would be a fun run. Any where I can see how trails like that are rated?
