Default Need a shop or someone to fix my oil filter adapter housing!

1995 jeep xj 4.0 straight 6
Looking for a shop or someone who can fix my oil filter adapter. The seals are leaking (i have the seal kit). I worked all day trying to get the t60 torx to break lose and i couldnt get it. Anyone know of a shop? Would need to be done pretty soon welding class starts monday

Take it to your welding class and put heat to it.

Alright then, get a torch from Ace or whatever, even Walmart. Blue will work, yellow might be better but heat that sucker up. They put some kind of super red locktight on the bolt.

Oh man i thought you were being sarcastic haha **** i might just try that. I was worried about all the oil and stuff.

Nah man, just brake clean the oil off if you're worried about a fire. Usual precautions, blah blah, but heat should do the trick.

If it's just Loctite a heat gun will often loosen it up. If you use brake cleaner be careful with flames. It's not something I would do.

Your probably not near me but I'll do it for you. As long as you got the torx tool just need to get small wrench on it and then get the wrench in a position to allow you to put a piece of pipe on it for leverage. Mine didn't have torx I had regular bolt head mine being 1989 but I couldn't break it loose with regular wrench. As soon as I put pipe on end of wrench for leverage worked super easy.

Not gonna work in this case. The bolt looks like this:



Installed, all you see of the bolt is this:



There's no way heat from a heat gun is going to make it all the way down to those threads. It'll need a torch.

That would be a tough one alright! I've been surprised by a few though. I loosened a pair of transmission mount bolts recently. I didn't want to put my O/A torch on them (steel bolts into aluminum case). Normally you heat the thread piece vs. the bolt but in that case it was enough to soften the Loctite and that's all it took. Surprised me.

Well it also depends on the color thread locker they used. I think (can't be certain) that oil filter adapter bolt was put on with red loctite, which needs to reach 550° to release. Luckily that bolt is big enough that people who don't use heat are usually able to get it out with a cheater bar without breaking it.

The transmission bolts I mentioned above only had blue Loctite which takes less - about 450*-475* I think. They softened up pretty quickly.

I didn't have that style bolt which I'm glad I don't and anyone doing this probably source normal head bolt to replace it just in case you find yourself at this again. I still think if you can get a wrench on it just add a chester bar to the end should break loose. Just remember lefty loosy righty tighty?!
