project full width
 

so as some of you know, i have decided to go full width axles. i picked up a rear dana 60 and a front dana 44. i will be going 4.88 Nitro gears, ARB front locker, and Detroit rear locker. the biggest part of this project is going to be the suspension. i have decided to get rid of all coils and linked suspension. i am going waggy leaf springs in the front.

so i started out today by ripping everything out. i got the front axle and front suspension pulled out.

its all for sale by the way. built dana 30, 6.5" RE suspension and DBs and all components, and rear chrysler 8.25.

Why no front coils? I have yet to go pick up my free full with set. 44 front 60 rear 410s and detrots in both. I just need rims and tiers. But I can't see putting them in only to loose flex. It just dose not add up to me. Do you not know how to keep your links and coils? Just wondering.

Good luck with the front leaf's, makes since to me. You cant really flex alot with 35's anyway or the rate you go 38's

major flex is cool and all but it serves no real purpose. with my link setup i ran limit straps which stopped me from flexing a $hit done anyway. the waggy leafs im gonna use will flex just as much as the link setup i had. look around at some leaf conversions and you will see this in all of them. the leaf conversion also saves me a crap load of money than going custom longarm. leafs are much more simple and easy to work with. i have been researching the front leaf conversion for a few months now and after everything i have read i chose to go this route. and besides, how many people can say they have front leafs on there xj :001_tongue:

im not here to persuade people either way. i personally hate when people debate over stuff like that. im just sharing what i decided to do and the reasons why i decided on it. but if it changes your mind then im glad i gave you enough information for you to decide that :thumbup:

this will be a slow build. but if everything goes as scheduled then it should be done before june

I just wondered why didn't mean to get your panties in a twist. I do a lot of my own fab work. So for me its cheeper and easier for me to stick with what I got. So didn't mean to cause a ruckus. I just think of coils as an up grade from leafs. I guess its just personal preference.

i also agree with that. coils and longarms are a step up from leafs. but for the price and simplicity leafs are the way to go for me. i dont rock crawl so a ton of flex isnt really needed

I have thought about going with leaves and bigger tires. The steering is gonna be kinda wierd but I guess you can just look at your dads rig to see how it all works.

the steering isnt as hard as you would think. i will probably pick up a high steer arm for the passenger side then run my drag link from the pitman arm to the high steer arm. then use the stock holes on the front of the knuckles for the tie rod. i dont really need a full high steer or over the knuckle steering. i dont rock crawl so it shouldnt be an issue. and the front end i got actually comes with steering

lol ya i know what you mean. i thought i would just post my build in here cuz naxja and pirate4x4 have a ton of big stuff.

on another note. front and rear axles are sold. drop brackets, trac bar and mount, and coils are pending sale

Sounds like you've really thought this thing through, Branden. If you need any help along the way PM or text me. You know I'm all about getting greasey to make an XJ more off road friendly.
