Default Brake Issues

Ive got a 96 XJ with ABS. The brake pedal is stiff and has almsot no travel. She stops but very abruptly. THe ABS light came on awhile back before it was parked for several months. Im not sure if the electronics or fuse for the ABS is messed up or if the actual system itself is. Im not familar with how ABS works but I checked the pads and rotors on the front and they are fine with a good 70% of pad still there.

Im trying to figure out whats wrong and if the work needed is something I cant do something myself. Would any brake shop be able to diagnose and fix it. Any ideas?

thanks

Do check your fuses, componants and wiring in the system for obvious problems before you take it to a shop. The shop will charge you around $70 an hour for labor even if a fuse fixes the problem. You pay for the first hour as soon as it rolls into the shop. Any tire shop or brake shop can fix ABS brakes. I'm not familiar with them or I'd offer you more troubleshooting advice. I will say this though. Pick up a Haynes manual for your Jeep. Mine has made me a little smarter about fixing my Jeep and it has saved me tons of money in labor costs.

The Haynes has a wealth of knowledge in it for all parts of your Jeep. I've used mine cover to cover...lol...in fact I'm on my second one because the first one got so dirty and oily that it fell apart.

its not an electrical issue its most likely ur brake booster check to make sure the check valve in the booster isnt backwards an the line that goes from the booster to the engine located behind the master cylinder make sure u have vacume there by pulling the hose off if so ur booster is 99% sure that it is bad im a auto tech so got some knowledge loll.. try that buddy
