Looking For First XJ
I went and looked a 99 Cherokee Classic this weekend w/ 140k miles and a clean title.
The seller (dealer) originally wanted $5,395 but I initially got him down to $4,500.
After having a mechanic in the area look at it, I tried to ask for an additional amount off to help offset the costs of some maintenance that would need to be done that day to ensure I could get it home. Nothing major; just a tune up and fixing an engine leak; $600 in total. The only other things that will need addressing later on are replacing the tie rods and exchange the x-fer and diff fluids. The mechanic was impressed at what great shape the truck was in considering the age and mileage (no rust!).
But the dealer wouldn't hear it and he stayed at $4500. So I ended up walking away.
Looking for any feedback/thoughts on this. Good that I held firm, or did i walk away from a great deal?
Thanks!
