01 Cherokee Won't Start...any ideas??
I bought a 01 Cherokee wrecked in the rear. The problem i'm having is starting it. The problem seems to be that the engine isn't getting any fuel. When I sprayed engine quick start into the intake the jeep purred right up but just as quickly as it started it died so now i figured that the sparks work but the engine wasn't getting any fuel. From what I heard the cherokee as no fuel cuttoff switch. So any ideas on what's not letting the fuel get into the engine?

is the fuel pump operating? Check for any fuel pressure?
|
something may have got tweaked in the wreck .... check all conn.. make sure no pinched lines or anything of the sort
|
On the fuel rail, hook up a gauge and see if its has good pressure, or even just press the little button in the middle of the connection port, it should spray out pretty good. If it is getting fuel, then check the TPS.

Thanks for all the advice. We unhooked the fuel lines to see if fuel will squirt out but it didn't and there was no pressure. So we re assuming that the fuel pump went dead.
|
The fuel pump went dead or as stated before since it was smacked in the rear end, maybe the fuel line was pinched/cut or the wiring was cut. Check that out before you just buy a fuel pump. They are a minimum of $80 and that is from autozone.

Depending on how hard the XJ was hit, it may have tripped the inertia switch. It's just like a circuit breaker, except with a catch that pops loose and shuts off current flow to the pump. Find it, and press the switch, if it clicks down, that's your problem. If not, all the other suggestions are worth trying.
I'm not sure where they're located on the 97+ XJs, or any XJ for that matter. :bangin: Good luck on getting her running though! |
I'm betting XJs don't have an inertia switch. I've bounced mine off of a few trees and rocks pretty hard and she just keeps on a going...lol.
|
^x2 I know Cherokees pretty well and I have never heard of one having an inertia switch, but I could be wrong.

one quick question....Is there gas in the tank???

Why would you do that to a rig that is used for wheeling. If my Jeep shut itself off everytime I hit something that would get to be a huge PITA!
|
An impact sensor.... If I put one of those in my XJ I would rig it to a speaker... anytime I hit something my XJ can say "Ow"
