Extra Grounds
I added some extra grounds to a '96 Cherokee with 4.0 HO. I hadn't came across Cruiser54's tips yet, but I think maybe these pics might save somebody some time. less than $10, 20 minutes or less unless your tools are scattered ;) Here we go let's start here:https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...af9c38090b.jpg
Unhook the battery negative first. |
Locate the the battery ground on engine. Its under the AC.

Here's a closer view. There is another ground immediately forward of the battery ground.https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...07fef1a40c.jpg
A closer look at two grounds. |
|
Now strip and wrap a solid core 10 or 12 guage wire to connect these two grounds.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...28b5bba4b1.jpg
Wire smashed flat to hold shape and offer better connection |
Now make your next connector from 10 guage wire

Crimp on the 3/8 stud eyelets

One end will go to the battery ground stud on engine. The other end will go behind distributor if equipped to the critical ground by the dipstick tube.

So essentially, you're bonding the grounds more so than adding extra grounds, right?
|
Or you could cut off the old lugs and solder on some new copper ones for 6 AWG, and wire wheel the **** out of the block, because if you don't do any of that connecting the grounds wont help much.

right! i never crimp solid wire, it always works loose.
Solid wire should be always be soldered to the terminal. Hell even with heavier gauge stranded, i crimp and then solder them too. |
Did any thing get different after this ?
