your opinion

I know I am opening Pandora's box here but who makes the best fuel pumps. I know Bosh is OEM, but I've been looking at a Delphi unit. I know they are OEM for other car makers... So what do you think? I haven't decided if I am going to replace the whole unit (most likely) or just the pump. System is at 25 PSI and holds once engine is turned off.

Your pressure gauge must be broke, I've never seen a 97+ run at low pressure.
Spec's for your rig are 49 +/- 5 psi.

It does not run well, actually thought I had leaky injectors because it acted like it was flooded. I now know it was starving.
Wifes jeep shows 48 PSI so its not far off.

I would buy the pump that has a good warranty......

Firestorm500 Nov 1, 2014 01:42 AM

I've been buying Precision pumps. I've not had any problems.

Supposedly today's Delphi is not the same one it was years ago. Apparently they got bought and stripped by another corporation.

I believe the other OEM supplier was Walbro.

My 99 reads 51 psi. on it and as far as I know is the original one.

Bosch and Carter are good pumps.
Airtex is something to avoid.

Firestorm500 Nov 1, 2014 09:22 AM

Airtex was also bought out by another manufacturer several years ago. Their quality is better now, so I have heard.

Unless you happen to get one of the old units that has been sitting on the shelf for 3 years or sold. Then it can kind of be a crapshoot.

O'Reilly's claims that all of the old part numbers are gone now. They say the leftovers were called back in and fixed or destroyed.

Very rare for a company to be bought out and have quality actually go up. Usually happens the other way around.

Any body delt with CarID? they have the Bosh assembly listed for about $189. I've never heard of them though..

That's a good price for a Bosch pump IIRC.

The warranty period should be an indicator of the quality of the pump......

Firestorm500 Nov 1, 2014 11:01 PM

They are all pretty much at 1 year.

Live by this moto and you'll be changing the same parts for a long while...lifetime warranty usually means a lifetime of replacing it.
