YJ/TJ ax15/231 5spd in a cherokee XJ?
has anyone used a YJ or TJ ax15/231 in their cherokee or commanche?
i ask because i have a '99 5spd 2wd 4.0L that i am going to make 4x4 5spd, and sourcing the XJ AX15/231 would be the easiest route, but they are not all that common, so i'm looking at alternatives to include the YJ/TJ, and as i understand it, the transfer is clocked slightly differently on the YJ/TJ which will require either an adapter plate or a BFH to the trans tunnel, which me being a cheapie is probably the route i'll take. another alternative as i understand it would be a dakota 4x4 5spd, and just use my bellhousing.
anyways, just curious how much hammering is actually needed to use the TJ/YJ tranny/transfer.....just ding it up some until it fits? or am i looking at making a cereal bowl sized indentation?
