Yet another oil pressure question
Ok guys, I have searched several times and have yet to find exactly what i'm looking for. I have a 2001 XJ 4.0. has 122K on it. About a week ago the oil pressure started acting up. it is about 40psi cold, then drops to about 20-25 psi as it warms up. when it reaches operating temp the gauge drops to 0 at idle. it goes up accordingly with acceration. There is no noise or vibrations. does not run rough. This only happens at idle after it warms up. I replaced the sending unit, no change. I checked it with a mechanical gauge, still reads the same. Now I'm thinking pump, then bearings if that doesnst fix anything. I am going to change the oil and filter this week and see if that fixes anything. I was talking to a mechanic friend of mine and he suggested to run 30w non detergent oil until it warms up, then change it back to 10w-40. I am not sure what i should do...... any suggestions?

Well, just an update on the oil pressure problem. I changed the oil and filter. Went with a Wix filter and some 10w-30 valvoline convential. Now my pressure is consistantly around 40 psi. The old filter was on there good. Took a lot to take it off. It looked a little small. I believe it was the wrong one. Well problem solved without much expense. Now on to more projects. Thanks for all the help
