Yet another issue.. In needof assistance

have a 1997 xj 4.0 automatic, recently its been hard to start, I have had to put the pedal to the floor while turning it over... And the fuel gauge reads empty after I filled it up. Now When I hold it to the floor and attempt to fire it up its starts barly, turning over and shaking terribly only for a second or 2. When I check the fuel pressure test port fuel squirts out... Does anyone have any ideas?? Any insite will be appreciated

You are confusing the computer. The computer does not need any mechanical input from your foot to start the Jeep. You have a bad fuel pump ground and that is why the guage is reading wrong. Ask me how I know.

The pedal to the metal position is used on OBDI and II to clear a flooded engine. He is telling it that it has flooded, which may not be the case. The coputer as Blue said is set up to start the engine with no throttle engagement.
