y fitting

Hi all. I have a 1990 cherokee lerado. just put on a new heater control valve, but need this part. it's the outlet y that goes to the water pump but I don't know what it is called so I can look it up. A brass y fitting from homedepo would probably work but I want to keep everything stock. thanks for the help. |
You can reuse the fitting if it is not leaking . just cut off the crimps and you can put new hoses on it and use hose clamps or you can get a new heater hose assembly .

Wait, I thought you deleted the heater control valve? Got any pictures? Between the multiple threads and questions, I'm really confused about what you're doing and don't want to steer you wrong. You asked about an inline radiator cap and eliminating the HCV earlier, and if you go that route, you don't need that Y fitting or the surge tank anymore.

what help can i give?

He was referring to the user cruiser54. :}
So looks like you're plumbed straight to the heater core and eliminated the bottle? In which case, adding Moroso part you pictured above or swapping to a radiator with a cap would be the next step since you need something with a pressure cap in the system and an overflow bottle. If the radiator is the original, it might need replacing anyway. Double check the pictures, but I believe 1991 is when they switched to the "open" setup and the radiators with the cap. I used a 1992 when I converted mine. You might want to route the lines along the valve cover. Looks like they're rubbing on the hood. |
yeah I'm going to do the Moroso thing. is the 92 radiator a direct fit or did you need to modify it,and I do need to put longer lines in it. thanks. I read that running the lines directly to the core helps the core live longer because there isn't any stagnant fluid sitting in the core.

Yes, the 92 radiator was a direct fit. Keeping some flow through the heater core year-round does help keep it from sludging up. You might find the heat is also better because you aren't diverting some of the flow through the surge tank.

No problem. We sometimes take it for granted that we have members with a wide range of skills and knowledge -- ranging from the person who asked "what are the white lights on my rear lights and why don't they light up" to the guys that can rebuild engines and transmissions in their sleep.

The spectre radiator is made to fit all years 87+ . I got that when I went to the overflow setup. An actual renix radiator was 3x the price.
