XJ Wagoneer headlamps

Hi,

I am french and just bought a nice 87 XJ wagoneer.
Not very frequent in Europe :icon_cool:

I want to improve night visibility.

* I saw some harness on the web for XJs.
But not sure they will fit a Wagoneer (who knows ?)

* new headlamps ? They all seem to be for the regular XJ.
Can we just change the bulb ? Any good supplier ?

thanks for any advice

Best I can tell your setup is close to the same as an XJ, same old GM headlight switch, battery is located about the same. Compare your headlight connections with the kits, if their the same should work for you too. You might need 2 wiring kits for the 4 lights set up ? After you get the wiring upgraded and want more light check out AutoPals light kits, euro version is better. BleepinJeep on youtube covered the difference with the wiring upgrade and various lights. Member here sells a good kit, jhc7399, ask him if he will make a wiring kit for you. There are many version on the net, I happen to choose this setup for my XJ.

You should take the voltage reading with both head lamps plugged in so there is a load on the system , if you did that you would probably have a voltage reading closer to 10 volts or less on the jeeps wiring .

Cruiser54's website describes a way to improve lighting from the Wagoneer.

The standard upgraded harness is available on eBay.

The modification to the wires is drawn on this pict (from Jim Capps)

This is a good way to improve the lighting with the standard headlamps.

Still, if someone has a link to a direct fit replacement headlamps, give it ;)

The best (in my opinion) sealed beam headlamps we can get are Sylvania Silverstar because they are xenon filled and xenon lights up as well. AND they don't rot out like H4's do.

Do you have a direct link to purchase the high and low headlamps on the web ?
I struggle to be absolutely sure to order the right ones for the Waggy. :brickwall:

Thanks

I just did a little research for ya. Sylvania XtraVision H4701 High beam, H4703 Low beam. At Autozone, $16.99 USD each. You can check with them about overseas shipping.

These numbers are what Sylvania specifies for the 87 Waggy.

The XJ Wagoneer is a different animal when it comes to headlamp harnesses. I don't think the one for the Cherokee 2 headlamp system works.

Daniel Stern Lighting might have something.
