first bottle of seafoam
Hey guys, just bought a bottle of seafoam cause i heard it can work wonders on your engine. but i want to know where you guys have put it and what it did for you. good or bad. i not completely sold on this stuff yet, it still kinda scares me to put it in the oil but i did put some in gas.

I just did my 1st bottle about 4 weeks ago. I added it into the valve cover and my gas tank and I can honastly say I had abosolutly no difference. If anything, it made a lifter tap I had louder. Some people swear by it, I think it's a waste of time. Just my 2 cents

we used it on my friend's ranger and it helped a bit. He has a smoother idle and gets 2 better mpg. Put 1/2 can in the gas tank, and 1/2 can through the throttle body. Slowly pour it in the throttle body and ease off when the engine studders so you won't stall it. Then shut it off and wait 10-15 minutes. Start it back up and rev it a bit to clean it out. Just refer to the directions on the can.
By the way I wouldn't put it in the oil. I'm not too comfortable with things other than oil going in my crankcase. I've heard people put some in right before an oil change and let it run for a bit in the driveway to clean things out.

When put in the oil, the oil should be changed soon after, all it does is clean gunk build up out of the motor, vaccum induced or put in the TB cleans the intake system, when done that way after it is in the system it should sit for 10-15 mins before a restart ( then drive it until the smoke clears lol), ive had good experiences with it, and in the gas it cleans the injector system......all depends on if you use it correctly or not, i feel its worth every cent

I put a 3rd of the can in the oil, gas, and vac line. also you're not suppose to drive it with it in the oil just let it run for 20 min or so. I also heard that you can put straight diesel fuel in the oil pan and let it run for 2 min and you will remove chunks of crud, but they are so large that it will plug the oil plug hole

Put a half can in my oil right after I got it. It had a new oil change, ran it for about 200mi until I saw something on here a while ago and changed it immediatly. Oil was pure black and dilouted.
Didn't harm anything that I can tell though.

Yeah it tends to break down oil much like a solvents do, which is also why it removes crap from the oil.

my '88 has 398,000kms on the clock, am I right to avoid putting it in the oil in case the crud is holding things together / stopping leaks?
