xj steering ?
ive got a question on the xj steering , when you get mine in a bind the steering will not turn without a fight could it be the box or pump or what might cause it. im new to the jeeps so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :help:

id guess the pump, check your fluid and check for leaks, also one thing you can do is like on the humvee's just hit the gas a lil bit and that might help when turning hard
10th mountain div btw |
lift height? tire size? D30? stock steering?

either upgrade the steering or tap the throttle like said and then it should turn if you are like most and dont have the money just tap the throttle but there are few relatively cheap mods you can do to get better steering like upgrading to tierod out of a V8ZJ
|
also try not to put it in a bind when steering or you will have some unibody issues and most likely a broken mount to deal with

its got a 4in lift with buckshot p's which measure 31 1/4 , stock d30 and stock steering. full of fluid and yes if you rev it up it will turn a little easier.

try going to the durango steering box they are stronger and it may not be possible to keep it out of a bind but you can do some stuff to help out like a steering box brace stronger mount and a brace behind the bolts like a bumper mount to spread the load. and a stronger pump will help as well
|
yea the box has already been braced up but what all does it take to use a durango box and what would be a good pump ?

http://www.quadratec.com/products/56...?sgsc=GSTEST01 and the durango box is from the late 90 durango with the snow plow option i think but if you do a internet search it will come up pretty easy
