Xj starts with full open throttle and dies
I had a nonstart issue before, replaced ignition coil and reinsulated some wiring. Now when i try to start it, it will only start with the throttle pushed open and as soon as the throttle is let go it dies. I am thinking throttle position sensor, any suggestions?

From the limited information that sounds like a low voltage condition. Where enough voltage gets to the starter to start, but the computer is not happy while running. The first, free, and easy thing to check is all of your ground connections. You know the basics like battery posts, clamps, cables, ground locations. Clean, shiny, tight, etc. I made a video about it:

Ok thanks. Wow that is a super informative video, thank you for the info. I will clean up all my grounds tonight.

There is another ground that video did not cover, and that is the DLC ground on the passenger side of the engine block, between cylinders 5 and 6. Remove and clean that ground as well.

Good call, thanks. I did that video on the spur of the moment. I think I might take some time and do a better one in the future, and brush up on the FSM before making it so that I can actually call each ground by its proper name, identifier, and list more of the components that depend on it.

Throttle to floor signals the ECU to "clear flood" meaning no fuel is injected.
I'd be looking for something that's causing extreme richness like the tube from the MAP sensor to the throttle body. |
