Join AAA also....
Been there / done that.
Join AAA more than 48 hrs before you hit the road. Tow fees from Interstate can kill otherwise and AAA garages will not gouge you...generally.
Just as important, do not push it. Drive at reasonable speed even if bored. Avoid traffic slowdowns if possible -- long hot crawls won't do you good.
Also as others said, let us know how it goes. Good luck

I did 1100 miles this past August. Got 25mpg @ 2000rpm. '98, five speed manual, 235/75R15s. With that combo, 2000rpm in 5th gear works out to about 65-70 mph. (Speedo doesn't read correctly!)

I always did the mpg calculations whenever I filled up. My jeep is the I6 with and automatic, and 65 mph is usually the sweet spot for me. At that speed I can get 20mpg all day, but in texas when I pretty much had go faster or get run over I was doing about 75mph, and my mpg dropped to like 16mpg. Obviously other factors could have played in, but it was always driving with cruise control and I always slowed down when i got to uphill stretches. I eventually chose to pick time over cost, because I had already established a budget for the trip and I could afford the gas, especially since gas is sooo much cheaper outside of CA! It is awesome. But hopefully my calculations can help give you an idea, Im sure others have had different experiences, but those were mine. Good luck on your trip!

Itll be fine, just do an oil change, bring extra fluids, make sure your cooling system is up to par, and have a few wrenches on you! But mostly just take it easy and itll be fine, that is what I learned most from my trip. Good Luck on yours!
