XJ remote entry?
OK so how do I find out if my XJ came with remote entry (I know I didn't get an FOB with it). I want to know if I can get a replacement FOB and reprogram it to work with my Jeep. I know on my old Dodge truck all the factory codes were on the glove box (inside) so you could see what all options the truck came with when new. Does this exist in the Jeep anywhere?
I believe I have the sensor in the roof for the remote, but want to be sure before I spend $45 on a remote that may or may not work with my Jeep.
Cheers!

my 96 xj has the keyless entry and the sensor is on the roof right ahead of the review mirror however I am not too sure if you can get a remote and reprogram it. What I would do is run to a shop that does alarms and stereos and ask them but I will do a little digging around to see if I can figure this out for you.

I have already found how to program the remote, just wanted to know how to figure out if my XJ was delivered from the factory with the keyless entry system (if not, then buying a remote is useless).
What does the sensor look like? My XJ is a '95 and does have a little black plastic dome on the headliner up by the rear-view mirror. Does that mean it did have keyless entry?
If the XJ did not come from the factory with it then I would need the sensor, the circuit board and a remote and I don't think that is worth all the trouble. This will be my DD so keyless entry would be nice...

Cool. Now I gotta find a cheap FOB. I just checked an E(vil)-Bay is more than getting one from the www.keylessride.com site. Go figure.

The dome is the infrared reciever for the keyless entry fob. Inside the housing is a circuit board. The board has the RKE code on it. There may be several numbers/stickers in there; not all are good codes.
Some RKE fobs are still available from Jeep dealers.
