XJ No crank/start please help. Checked battery+starter
FIXED********BUT I'LL LEAVE THIS HERE FOR ANYONE ELSE
Solution on the start of page 2
Hate to leave nothing productive other than a problem but here goes, 1998 xj 4.0 will not start or crank or anything. It has a brand new battery and a brand new starter. The only response I get is if disconnect and reconnect the battery, then on accessory I get full power to everything, fuel pump primes, electrical all comes on, the works. But when I go to turn it on from there I get a single click and everything dies and locks me out. No power anywhere at all no matter if I turn it on/off from there. Goes into a full electrical lockout. Only thing to do at that point is disconnect the battery again and it's the same story all over until I pull the terminals off again. Please help.. my wife is pregnant full term and we could need to make a trip to the hospital at any moment. Thank you all

Does it have the factory alarm system? I had similar problems. There is a reset button on the drivers side kick panel. You press and hold that button while turning the key and it allows the jeep to start. I have always kept it in valet mode after that.
If you don't have an alarm, I am not really too sure.

It does not have any alarm system on it. I have seen very little information similar to this but from what I hear maybe it's a fault in some sort of computer that is putting me into am electrical lockout. No leads from there

Did you check the ground from the firewall to the back of the intake manifold? I am not sure exactly where that one attaches, but mine came loose and did the same thing. Easy way that I tested it was just use the jumper cables, connected one end to the block/head area and the other to the negative terminal and it started right up.

Sanded clean a spot on my block and connected my jumpers. Nothing. In fact it seemed to just make things worse.. now in my dash I am only getting my door chime when I put the key in and it all dies, locks me out again when I go to start up. Any help at all is wildly appreciated, my girls scheduled due date is next Thursday and we need a vehicle for our newborn

You may have tried some of these things but maybe something in this thread can help. And did you check your battery cables themselves? Maybe something is up there.

Get a voltmeter or a test light and check for voltage on the small center stud on the starter solenoid while a helper turns the key. If you get voltage there, then you are getting ignition power to the starter solenoid and something is wrong with the solenoid or the starter motor (or battery is low). If you don't get any power on that stud, start working backwards through the starter relay, NSS, ignition key cylinder, etc
