D35 possibly broken
So today at school I was backing into a spot in a gravel lot with a little bit of snow. I tried to go a little further back into the snow because I was sticking out pretty far and I heard a really loud pop from the back axle. Right before I heard it my wheel was spinning on some ice so I don't really know what happened. So my question is do you think its the d35 breaking that I heard or something else? And if it is broken, what should I do? Should I put it in 4wd and drive home in front wheel drive or is there something else I can do?

If your axle broke you will not be able to move it very far in 2wd. If your axle is broke you will not be able to put it in 4wd and drive it home because the broken axle will walk out of the axle housing.

I'm not sure if my back wheels have power. I'll have to wait till I'm out of school to find out. And yeah I thought that it would walk itself out, so is my only option to have it towed if it is the axle?

I've swapped axles out on the side of the road, isn't fun but it can be done. If you do swap it out where it is make sure you get plastic bags to catch oil and use a magnet to get all the pieces out of the axle tube.
