No you don't need to program anything the computer will just read it and its only one or two bolts i cant remember not a very hard install you can do it

 

I would definitely replace the sensor i most likely your problem

 

is ther a kick down cable on this xj andis it adjustable

 

no it's all electronic now just plug and play

 

i would thinkit would throw a code then

if youhave this cable under your hood this is the kick down cable to adjust it have some one sit in truck engine not running and in park push the buttom down in red circle have them pusn gas pedal to the floor while holding button down when pedal is down all the way let up button release gas pedal drive vechicle see if problem fixedhope this helps

 

I will try the kickdown cable tommorow morning, and if it doesn't work i'll see about changing the transmission rpm sensor,
