xj clutch issue

I'm new to the xj's. I know my way around custom cj's well. I just bought a 1994 2 door cherokee sport with I-6 and 5 spd tranny. When driving I push the clutch in and it does not want to come out of gear. This happen on and off. Then sometimes I go to stop it and the clutch does not want to disengage. I think it might be the clutch master cylinder, Any other ideas?

try to bleed it first...my 92 did the same and bleeding it was a temporary fix for about a month....ended up replacing the MC, and going to do the slave before the winter, or when it goes, whichever comes first....hope this helps!....forgot to say that I hope you have an external slave, mine is internal and going to be done when needed.

does it like to keep moving on you when you have the clutch engaged and are "stopped"?

My clutch had sort-of similar issues. The pedal grabbed very low to the floor and was very stiff, hung up going into and out of gear, and this was after a new slave cyl was installed and bled (easy to do on the externals). I ended up replacing the clutch, and it solved the problem. aside from my 214k old synchros it shifts into and out of gear like butter.
