Default trailer hitches

I'm trying to find a Reese type trailer hitch for my '98 XJ. I've called around to some local JYs but only have found one from an XJ. My question is, what other makes/models use hitches that I and put on my XJ?

Only a hitch off a Jeep Cherokee will fit a Jeep Cherokee. Any year will work.

Why deal with the hassle of wrestling one off only to find you're missing hardware? They aren't very expensive.

I have a Reese that I put on mine - love it

Default CPS or CMP?

My 99 is having occasional trouble starting. Most of the time it starts right up with no problem, sometimes it cranks longer than usual, and sometimes it won't start unless I give it gas and then it won't idle unless I keep giving it gas until it warms up at which point it will idle roughly but stay running. I have read that these are common symptoms of a failing crankshaft position sensor and/or a failing camshaft position sensor. That said, which is the more common culprit?

i have a 3" lift. is there a way to fit 33" tires under it w/out going higher?

yes. ditch fenders and trim alot. wheels with more backspacing will help.

I currently have a 4.5" lift on my 01 xj. i would like to bump it up to 6". Can i just buy new front and rear springs or will I have to change out more suspension components?

You will need new shocks, brake lines, a new track-bar(or extend the one you have provided you put in an extendable one when you did the 4.5) , new drive shafts, and a new drop pitman arm. It would be best to do a traction bar to avoid axle wrap in the rear.

That's my two cents. I may have given you more than you NEED to do but I prefer to do things the correct way, and if anything error on the cautious side.

Most shocks that come with a 4.5" kit are good for 4-6" of lift. I would double check with manufacturer of your shocks. Not knowing what kit you currently have, i can't really say if you will need anything else. If you don't already have a SYE kit, you will definitely need one now, along with a CV rear driveshaft. Your kit may have come with extended brake lines, if not you will need new ones, or at the very least move your extended ones down a bit. You're getting into the range where you will likely need a dropped mount for the front trackbar and a drop pitman arm to prevent bump steer from occurring also.

Those are not symptoms of a failing CPS/CKPS. If those were failing no matter how much gas you gave it it wouldn't matter. Failure in those components causes a no-spark situation.

My guess is you have a fuel delivery problem, most likely a clogged fuel filter or a pump that's on it's way out. You need to check to see if your fuel pressure is good at the fuel rail (so a search on this forum to find out how). You may also have some clogged fuel injectors. Change out the fuel filter (chances are it needs a new one anyways), and determine if you have good fuel pressure when cranking the engine.

That being said it is possible the CPS is failing, but that wouldn't be my first choice by a long shot.

The does not look like a sock downpipe, more like one someone rigged up - poorly. The o2 sensor is rotated too far over toward the driveshaft, which is why it is hitting when the suspension cycles. You're going to get a stock downpipe to replace that one - one that has the o2 sensor bung welded in the correct location.

Thanks for the response. I have already changed out the fuel strainers on the pump, run seafoam through both the tank and the throttle body, and changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I have not yet checked the fuel pressure at the rail so I will do that next. Also, just to clarify, by CPS do you mean Crank or Cam position sensor?

crank sensor - rarely does the cam sensor fail.

And the fuel filter is separate from the fuel pump strainer
