wtf??

So today I'm at work, and my girlfriend calls me to say that she was driving my jeep and the radio turned off, the power steering stopped working, and the gas pedal wouldn't work all while the car was on. The ac still ran though.

What is going on with my Jeep, anyone?

Just bought a yellow top not too long ago so I doubt its the battery.

have you drove since this happened

Why would the power steering stop working, but the A/C keep working? Is there more than one belt on an 88?

Ok yeah ill do that, but now that I think about it the same thing happened to me one night. I was on the access road and I thought I ran out of gas. Luckily I was right next o a gas station and just rolled in.

Just f.y.I it is an automatic with a yellow optima...

My girl just told me the car turned off in the middle of the road and it took a couple tries to get it started again...hmmm?

also take a look at your ignition switch. mine was having funky electrical issues and i found the switch was nearly melted in half from the corrosion making too much heat.

So it seems to me that my car is just turning off by itself???:furious:

Okay, well I figured out what the problem was! The positive battery cable that goes to the starter was corroded and started shorting out on my oil filter! While my girlfriend and I were troubleshooting to find the issue, she turned the key on and I noticed smoke was coming from below the filter. I get below the jeep and realize my jeep was on FIRE underneath!

Thank the lord my girl was safe and was pulling right up to the house when the problems started occurring!!

i'd change your oil filter now too. it won't be long before the pressure blows through the weak spot, leaving you stranded with a trail of oil down the road.
