Wrong Monroe MaxAir Shock?

I ordered some Monroe Max-Air MA765 rear shocks from Amazon.com for my 1991 Cherokee Sport (4wd). The number on the outside of the box appears to be correct (MA765), but the shocks look different from the ones in the picture on the site, and the shock seems too short. The number on the shock itself is 48765 (the "765" would make me think it was the right one, if not for the fact that it seems way too short). When I put the driver side one on, I had to pull it clear out to get it down to the mount, and I am right at a line labeled "MAX" on the shock (see the picture). I wouldn't expect the rubber part to be sticking out so far if it were the right size. This is with the vehicle off the jackstands and typical weight (~100 lbs. of gear) in the cargo area. Anyone have any experience with these shocks? Or have the same shock and could check the actual number on the shocks? See below for the comparison between old and new.

there at max already, however did you try putting air in them? you might have tugged on the boot already making it expand like it had air in it but it doesnt. When you add air it might be different.

I myself just ordered my monroe shocks. MA765 is the part number on the box, and they are black. Just like yours. i got em off ebay.

Does it ride evenly? I got the same shocks i got an 89 with saggy rear leafs i need the backs boosted up a bit get a pic of the stance on here

I think they are actually the right shock, after all. Where it says "Max" it actually says "Max - Air"--the "AIR part is just faint so I didn't notice it at first. So I put them on, and aired them up to 90 psi. The jeep is definitely riding better now, though the old shocks were so bad, almost anything would be better. It definitely got rid of the 1-2" of sag I had before.

So far, so good.
