Worth it or not?
Hey guys I'm new here but have been lurking for a little while. I am currently searching for a XJ, preferably a 98+. There is one near me, dc/maryland area, that looks really clean but the mileage is a little higher then I would like. It has 160K. Carfax is clean (I know it doesnt tell the whole story but it helps) and the vehicle looks well maintained. They are asking $3500 for it, too much? Its a 2000 btw. Thanks,
Zach

to start with autochecks beats carfacts. they have alot more info. 160xxx aint to bad at all. if its clean i would try and talk em down but from what the used dealers around here are sellin that sounds about right.

i think its too much.
are you looking to go offroad with it? if so the 00 will have a low pinion d30 which is weaker, if it has abs it will have a d35 in the back which is way weaker, and youll have a coil for each cylinder which i don't know if its good or not, just more expensive to replace.
160k on a 2000 for 3500 seems steep to me. JMO

Not really. My parents live in Mass near the ocean and I love to fish so driving on the beach, loose sand, would be the most it gets into. I do plan on a 3" lift with 31" tires but I'm not a big off road guy.
I talked to the dealer today and they are not willing to give on the price
Oh and it has a clean autochecks also

^^ Wow those were great deals. Things around the DC area seem to be a bit on the pricey side. All the XJ's with under 100K are in the 5's and up.

Keep looking. Youll pay WAY more at a sealership VS one private party. check www.creaiglist.org ? or your local 4x4 forums/classifieds?

I agree. But the mileage is good at 160 k for an xj. I paid 1725 for my 1992 and had looked at craigslist in my area of WI and they were selling fast two months ago. Now we are in the market for a GC for the wife. I think that the dealers will jack up the price and I would go with a private seller if they have history of work done. Have it checked by a trusted tech too. I have spent 1 k so far on my xj getting it road ready. I will keep it stock for now and the only thing I will do in the future is 3 inch lift and better wheels and tires next year. The ext needs work with possible armour kit. I would say spend within your budget and watch craigslist and don't take a sellers word for any work done to xj. At least the used car place I got mine from had a list of problems with my xj before I got it, so I knew it was a project xj. If you find a good xj let us know. Good Luck and go with 4 x 4. 4.0 as I did. YOu may spend a lot of time finding the right one for less than 3500. I have seen them listed for less in your area on craigslist.

$3500 is a bit steep, the great thing about XJ's they are not rare... i say shop around for a bit more, and althouth 160xxx isn't crazy milage for a jeep, and can atleast try and use it to talk 'em down a bit.

Yeah unfortunately it seems prices around here are on the upper end of the spectrum. 100K mile XJ's go for $4500+.
