Wont start without pressing down gas pedal. (Sometimes)
Hey everyone, haven't had any major problems lately but one is getting to be more of a habit. Everyonce and awhile my 94 cherokee won't start. Once I press the gas pedal down it'll start. But if I let off of the pedal, the jeep will stutter and die immediately. I have to keep my foot on the gas for about 35-40 seconds before the jeep will idle on it's own. This used to just happen after a long day of wheeling. Usually the next day. But now it just does it after it seems it been sitting awhile. Not even a day, a friend said it could be a leaky fuel injector? Not sure so I'm posting here. Thanks in advance for any help.

Leaky/bad fuel pressure regulator
Broken fuel pump check valve
Fuel pump, fuel filter
MAP not working properly
CPS getting tired
Leaky inj. maybe but have doubts on that one.
Try turning the key on and off two or three times wait about 3 seconds in between, or till you don't hear the fuel pump during each cycle, then start?
Will need a fuel pressure test gauge to check--- fuel pump, regulator, and check valve.

It sounds like gas isnt getting to the engine one way or another. Have you been in any fender benders lately? Hit any bad pot holes? It may be your emergency fuel pump shut off switch is being tripped. You can try resetting it. Directions should be in owners manual.

Also, I had to get my fuel pump replaced about a hundred miles ago because it took multiple times for the car to turn over and/or the started would just grind. After the replacement it works like a dream.

Ive seen this issue with a dying battery as well... Personally
The fact that she runs when throttle is applied makes me lean on a fuel issue less... And only takes 40 seconds and runs great the rest of the day?
A simple fuel pressure test would help eliminate some issues...
Still i would have the battery checked.. Just to rule that out

Well, putting your foot down on the gas (pedal-to-the-metal) and then turning the key to start, puts the ECU in "clear flood mode", meaning the injectors are actually shut off (this to allow clearance of excess fuel first). So, if it needs this to start, you might need to consider the leaking injectors, for example.

check things first before you start throwing parts. Otherwise you'll spend a lot of $$ not fixing the problem. Do a search on how to check for leaking injectors.
