wont run smoothly

wont run smoothly
i have a 93 cherokee and it spits and spudders.also back fires somtimes.i have changed fuel filter,roter button,dist. cap,spark plugs and wires.then i checked the oil and it is tan looking and gritty.what the problem!!!please help

If your oil is tan or looks milky then you have water in it,did you loose some coolant recently?
I would not run it until you know what has happened,I suspect blown head gasket. I would also check your cat and make sure it is not plugged,I had a plugged cat once before actually cause the head gasket to blow from back pressure.
