Default Wobbly Crank Pulley

So, I am hunting down a tick/knock that is not lifter or exhaust related. I checked my oil pressure, and its good, 55psi cold start, warmed up and was sittin around 35-40.
While doing this, I noticed my crank pulley was wobbling. Could this cause a knocking sound?? I checked the bolt, and its tight, so I am assuming the pulley itself is bad.

Possibly, you definitely need to change your harmonic balancer, check out some of my prior threads. It could be a number of things, if you balancer has separated far enough, it could be hitting the back of the mechanical fan, but that would be a "ting" sound. It could also be your water pump bearing going bad. That would sound just like a wavering knock. The list goes on. Pick up a maintenance stethoscope and start poking around. If you don't have access to one, a 3 ft Water hose can give you almost the same results

the knock comes from the back of the engine.. I realy hope I dont have a bunch of worn out barrings and crank walk : the entire pulley is moving, not just the outside part, the rubber between the two parts looks normal, dry but normal....

Interesting, have you checked your flex plate bolts?

yup, they where a little loose, so I tightened them all up. i inspected the flexplate while I did that and saw no cracks.

the knock goes away after about 1500-2k rpm, and it runs great otherwise.

So you are guaranteed its from the back of the motor. Can you possibly isolate it anymore, is it a steady knock?

Ok saw that one, doesn't sound good but I would get a stethoscope on it and isolate more, I would also take the belt off and run it, just to eliminate the pulley components.

So I went and picked up a new balanced and rented the tool to do the job. Crossing my fingers on this one.... just waiting on the garage to warm up.

took 2 guys to do mine

1 holding belt .. other guy impacting bolt off

a small impact will fit in there without removing grill / front end stuff

but watch PSI .. that 1 job toasted impact .. big compressor on lil tool .. killed it .. ouch

I dont have air tools. I'm gonna use the starter to get it loose. Unhook the coil, put my long breaker bar on it and bump the key. It works g
reat.

Leave the belt on while you loosen the bolt, put a wrench on hit a loosen with a couple quick blows. Make sure you use the installation tool also, if not, good luck keeping the motor from turning
