Default Wobbley front end while sitting still?

I noticed today that when the Jeep is sitting still and I turn the steering wheel both left and right the 'nose/body' of the jeep seems to move towards the direction I'm turning instead of staying straight.

Thats the best I can describe it. It's the exact same feeling as when I was adjusting the adjustable front trackbar on my Wrangler. When the trackbar was out the body of the Jeep moved with the wheels.

I had my wife turn the wheel back and forth while I looked for loose stuff in the front, but not only do I suck at looking for these things but it was also dusk and a bit difficult to see underneath.

What is the first thing I should check? Is there a list of front end component's torque settings?

track bar, either axle end bushing or frame mount.

Roger that, I'll check it for real tomorrow. What are the torque settings for those bolts? If the bushing is bad what are my options, can I buy just new bushings?

Well I just checked it out, and sure enough the trackbar is loose as hell.

It's good and tight on the axle end, but is just silly loose on the frame end. The 'bracket' that that end attaches to seems to be tightened down pretty good to the frame, but the spot where the trackbar attaches to that seems to be the problem.

The frame end of the trackbar doesn't attach with a bolt like it does on my JK. It just looked like a pin with a retainer clip on the top. How the hell do I get it off? Does it sound like the bushing is bad?

is your XJ lifted?
if not just go down to your local NAPA and buy a new track bar.

Nope, no lift yet. That sounds easy enough.

it fits in at the frame mount via a ball joint/tie rod end.
so just need a tie rod puller to get that end out. then remove the bolt on the axle end and replace the track bar by fixint it at one end and get someone to turn the steering wheel until it lines up to fit the other end.

Turned out the 'bolt' inside the frame end of the trackbar broke somewhere yet still would not let go of the trackbar.

Ended up removing the rubber bushing and angle grinding through the bolt to remove....
