Luv my 96 xj the mix of metric & sae fasteners drive me up the wall. What is even more bizarre I look up wiring diagrams and when I trace them, the colors are different.

Wiring colors can change due to repairs or non-factory options like alarms or stereos. Previous owners often use whatever wire they have on hand. Factory diagrams are a starting point, but always trust what you actually see in your truck. Grab a test light and trace circuits physically it's the only sure way on a 30-year-old Jeep.

First question is what is your wiring reference...if not the factory wiring manual then colors are suspect. 2 nd, 96 was a bastard year so some parts might be a 95...some 96. Some 96 obd1 and some obd2. At least on the engine...i think pre 97 parts had round pin connectors and on 97 up was flat blade pin connectors on my 01 ..Most of motor bolts are sae..but throttle body held in by metric....remember america going to metric system by 2000. Lol
