Wiper linkage

Hello everyone,

I have a 1994 Cherokee sport and the wiper linkage is getting worn out. I have been looking around and don't seem to be able to find a replacement part online. I have not checked the junk yards yet but I figure anything I find will be in close to or worse condition. Can I upgrade the linkage to say a 2000 Cherokee or will it not line up?

Thanks for the help.
Jim

Note from DJ
I did this fix on my 88XJ several years ago and they are still good. But it never rains hear in Southern California.

This maybe the part number that you need Dorman Part No. 49447

Note from DJ
If you decide to just replace the bushings, hear is another tip that I did.
When you have every apart there is a bolt that holds the serrated part the wiper arm attaches to; remove the bolt, then the serrated part, next pull the shaft out of its housing.
I lubricated the shaft and the serrated part with a Stay Lube Marine Grease which I have in my grease gun [I grease my Jeep with it]. I squirted a little bit of the grease onto something, then I mixed in a small amount of Powered Graphite this mixture is what I lubed the two parts with.

Have you checked to make sure the motor isn't loose? Really common problem that makes you think the linkage is going bad.

Sloppy linkage is an easy fix with new bushings. Part# Dorman 49447 Windshield Wiper Linkage Bushing Assortment. Most local parts store carry for less than $5.

Last weekend I replaced the motor because the stop mechanism was wore out inside motor. Sure made it feel like I had bad bushings again. I replaced bushings 10 years ago, 1 was bad so I just did them all again while motor was out. Mine get a lot of use here on the wetside of Oregon.

Thanks guys, I will pick up the bushings and put them in.

I pulled the cowl cover off today and the motor is loose also. What is the fix for that? I didn't play with it today, short on time and didn't want to disable my wipers.

Pull the whole assembly out , remove and reinstall motor mount bolts with red loctite. You probably don't need bushings. The motor being loose will cause the wipers to bind and act crazy. I had the same problem with mine. You have to say 12 swear words, 3 prayers, consider selling that damn Jeep ,and hold your mouth just right for the assembly to come out. But believe me it will come out.
