windshield washer leak help

greetings all. just pick up a 01 XJ and cant be more then excited to be apart of the family. having a problem with it though, washer fluid light comes on so I filled it up. drove it to the store and used it, when i came back out of the store i noticed a huge puddle under the jeep. the washer fluid was literally running out of the passenger wheel well area. if its worth mentioning I tried using the washer on the rear window aswell and didn't get anything to the back. any idea where and what exactly may be leaking? also would it be safe for me to top it back off for just the front wipers and not use the rear or would it still leak out? THANKS!

They both use the same tank hidden behind the left front wing. It's likely either the bottle's cracked, a pump's damaged or simply not pushed in correctly. Is yours a RHD for you to say passenger and be in the US?

I think you can get your hand to it by removing the inner arch liner which could allow you to have a look at where the leak is coming from.

Or have I misunderstood completely what you said. Has it all leaked out on you or do the fronts still work but nada to the rears? If that's the case it's likely a cracked hose and you'll be fine to just use the fronts. I'm not sure on the hose routing so can't point you where to look on that one.

the jeep is LHD and the reservoir is also on the left side on the drivers side. the fronts do work. but when i go to use the rear nothing squirts and it starts leaking out of the passenger side (right side) wheel well. it doesn't leak or anything when i use the fronts, its only when i try and use the rear. unfortunately when it happened i couldn't see exactly where it was leaking from. just seat it pouring down of the front right control arm. maybe I can just fill it with water and try and replicate it and get a better look.

the rear must have a convoluted line to get all the way to the back

I just replaced a motor in mine

The best way to get at the washer bottle is to remove the relevant front wheel, and just peel down the splash shield inner by detaching the push in plastic pins

Then you can inspect it

There is a Youtube available on how to do thos

The hose to the rear (on my 98 XJ) goes along the firewall and
enters it in front of the passenger footwell. It then passes under the
carpet and into the passenger side rocker panel.

I believe there is a joint near the passenger side on the hose shown in the above post. Try having someone operate the rear pump while you have a close look in that area near the AC accumulator. Try to find where it’s leaking. If there’s a blockage somewhere in that hose the extra pressure will find any weak joint or pinhole in the hose. Might even just be a broken hose, and so no water gets to the back. If you find the break u may just solve both problems at once.

The hose exits from the wiring harness and then passes down under the
coolant filler bottle and back toward the middle (arrow) and then enters the
firewall at a rubber fitting (arrow). I hope your fitting is still there.

My engine and exhaust are different than yours, but you can see in the second
picture the top of the passenger side shock absorber for reference.

that's where I thought it went... PO decided to run the amp power cable though that hole and there's no sign of the the line on the interior. SMH hate when people cant install stuff correctly and have to cut things out that shouldn't be cut.

You might try to pick up where the hose passes inside : under the carpet,
into the panel under the doors, into the roof to the lift gate. Maybe there
is enough length to rejoin the ends or you can splice a piece in.

If need be, punch another hole in the firewall. I had to do that to run a
speedometer cable when I switched from the electronic speedometer.

After you make several unique modifications to the Jeep, it will subtly
become something you claim as your own.

follow up... it is officially fixed. found the other end of the hose curled up and under the passenger floor board carpet! poked bake through and used a vacumm line barbed coupling. Thanks for all your help!
