Windshield rubber trim
 

OK, have been reading alot of threads on here about winshields and surrounding trim, but haven't really gotten any answer to my question.

It seems the rubber around the windshield is glued into the install and can't be removed without special tools or removing the windshield. Is there any way to gently slip some kind of nozzle under this to fill a little silicone in there to seal the gap, or will you just end up making a big mess?

you should be able to pull it up pretty easily, it wont hurt it.

as for getting silicone in there, it seems you'll need a long nozzle, because ive tried doing the same thing and ive still got airleaks

PLEASE do NOT use silicone to seal the windshield. Look for Urethane windshield caulk. You might have to visit an auto body supply shop to find it.

^ yup do not use regular silicon as mentioned. Also getting the rubber out can be a PITA! here is a neat trick though. get you some 1/4 cotton rope about 4 foot. soak it in a mixture of soap and water. feed it through the rubber(this can also be a pain) and start working it around the windshield. easy.

This is also a good way to reinstall the windshield. once you have the glass in the rubber, feed a soaked 1/4 inch cotton rope into the outer rubber groove leaving to tag ends about 2 foot each(you will need to go all the way around the outer rubber lip. place the windshield in position and put the two tag in on the inside. have a helper put pressure on the area you are trying to get the rubber over the lip and pull on the rope gently. it will pull the rubber over the lip with ease! and patients...thats a must too!

if you have a new rubber(usually 50 bucks from a auto glass place for most makes/models) there really isnt a need for sealant. Ive never put sealant around any windshield Ive installed. and I have put a bunch in...never had a leak.... even did an Aerocoupe monthe carlo this way and never had an issue!(look up that back glass if you dont know what that is!!! lol talk about weird looking!)
