Window cranks don't work

I just bought a 1987 Cherokee (4-door) and the front window cranks just spin, the windows are stuck in the down position. I managed to get both inside door panels off but now I'm stuck. The handle was not stripped, it actually turns spline it attaches to but that's as far as it goes, nothing else budges in there. I have no clue how to proceed and I'm that hoping someone might be able to help me troubleshoot this problem and tell me how to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

edited to add: the vehicle had been sitting for 2-3 years.

You need new window regulators.
Your only hope is to lift the window up while cranking the handle and see if it will start working. If it does, don't roll the window down that far again.

Thank you for the reply.
So a manual roll up window has a regulator, and if they do, is that a job the average person can do?

Gotta be able to drill out big rivets.

Any idea were can I find these? My search turned up either regulators for power windows, or the two I found for manual crank up windows said they wouldn't fit an 87 Cherokee Laredo. I'm sure there are specialized Jeep parts places but I haven't stumbled upon them yet.
