Winch on stock bumper?
Is it possible to mount an 8000 lb winch on a stock 2000 Cherokee bumper?

build your own if you got access to a welder, you can do it for prolly around 100 bucks, take a piece of 6x2x3/16th and some 3/16ths plate, jcr has some mounts that you can use with your own bumper design

I promise you the front bumper can't handle a winch. I ripped mine off last night pulling a buddy out backwards....looks better without it but still my point stands that the stock front bumper is useless

backbone OR front receiver and winch basket. then you can use it in front, in the back when you need it, or leave it at home when you don't. can mount the front receiver with the stock bumper (think you might have to cut the peice-o-plastic where the actual 2" square part is.
rustys and warn both sell front receiver kits and the baskets are pretty common. I'm in the market for the winch soon and will probably do the basket.

Buy a drawtite hitch, they're like ~170 bucks shipped to your door, shouldn't take too long to install, I'm going to buy one here soon as I get the money.
I'm bummed that I have to remove my front skid though... Maybe I'll just take an angle grinder to it and convince it to fit...

B.....we are discussing this on a similar thread here: Winch on a stock bumper!!!
If you can't get a stock thru bumper winch (like I have on my 1990 XJ, dealer installed option in 1990) then I'd consider a beefy after market bumper with a winch location designed into it. Alternately, I also have a 2" rec. hitch on the front and rear. A good mount base for a winch. Beefy enough for me to locate a snow plow that works. Look at my album if you care to see what I mean.
