Will this axle fit my xj
My xj is a 1989 jeep Cherokee pioneer 4.0 i6. I took my jeep in to have it alligned and they told me that the axle was bent at the diff housing and on the right side at the very end. I have found another d30 but my xj is an automatic and the other axle is off a manual and the gears are different. The axle is off a 1989 jeep Cherokee so will it be a direct fit? I also plan to take the gears out of mine and put it in the d30 I plan on purchasing. Also can the tubes being bent on my axle trash the gears. Thanks very much for your help.

the axles are the same, your gears are more than likley fine, you should be able to check your front diff if it is still installed.

Is this price fair
The guy is selling it on craigslist and he is asking $100 is that a good price?
|
That sounds reasonable, especially if it is complete. Does it have the hubs/brakes etc on it?
|
$100 is a good price. I have D44's from a Grand Wagoneer. Axle shaft was broke in mine. Salvage yard wanted $125 for the axle shaft. I found a complete frontend on Craigslist for $70. It was complete from caliper to caliper.

Yes
Yes the axle is complete and ready to install. How hard is it to re gear a Dana 30
|
Do you have any exsperience with changing ring and pinions?it is simple if you do,if not you can ruin your diff very quickly.
|
Dana 30's are a dime a dozen since EVERY XJ has one. Just find one that has the same gearing as yours. Almost every year is a direct swap.
I would not waste the time or money to swap the gears out unless you have better gearing in it. And yes Axle tubes can bend. Usually happens when Jumping it though |
No o have zero experience but I am willng to learn how to do it.
