first off im new to cf, and cherokee's period so im a bit lost on these trucks

i have a 96xj 4 door, that has a good running motor and tranny, but the body and damn near everything else is rotted to hell from being a northern car. i bought it for 400 bucks, it runs, i just need a better body shape.

so heres my problem, ive found a 97xj that runs just needs new head, well the guy is only asking 600 for it, so i figured id be it and pull my head off and swap it to his.. will this work or will i have better luck just transplanting the 96 motor into the 97??
