Default Wierd clunking noise when coming to a stop

Hey there, new guy here. Ive got a question for you guys.

When I am coming to a stop, I can hear and almost feel a very prominent clunk, clunk, clunk under the Jeep until I come to a complete stop. It is only when I am coming to a stop with my foot on the brake. I replaced the rear u-joints, all the front brake hardware with new pads and rotors. Nothing has made a difference. Ive searched a few forums and haven't found any solid info.

Im fresh outta ideas and hoping someone here has had a similar problem and fixed it.

Thanks guys! Ill be back with more on my Jeep when I get my lift sorted out!

is it only when stopping or does it happen when accelerating as well?

kind of a duh question but have you checked your front u-joints?

for starts i would also start by lubing up the slip yoke on the front driveshaft and go from there..

yep i agree. check your double cardon joint at your t-case. you would have felt the clunking noise at your feet if the joint has gone to hell. the factory join is not greaseable. if you have a new shaft made, they can put a greaseable ball and socket joint there. so in other words if that is the problem, best to get a new shaft built with the updated cardon joint. good luck.

Its is ONLY when my foot is on the brake pedal, never when accelerating/coasting.

That is exactly where I feel it, right under my feet, under the console almost. I didnt notice any play in the front drive shaft when I replaced the rear u-joints though thats why I didnt replace them. Is there another way to check? or how it should feel?

Thanks for the help guys.

hmm, i have a zerk fitting on mine although i do not know about the pre-97 driveshafts. when i blew out my 33 in dresser, i had to run 33s in the rear and 31s up front and took out my front driveshaft so i wouldnt mess anything up. well it sat for like 3 months and the slip yoke seized up. i had to beat it with a BFH and some wd-40 and it finally came free but was still very hard to move. so i greased it up and the little clunk i used to have but could never trace was gone!!

sounds like they are tight but what i would also do is jack up the front end and spin the tires. have you checked the u-joints on the end of the axle as well?

How about taking the front drive shaft off and seeing if it goes away.
