whirring noise
I have a 1997 Cherokee Sport auto 2wd. She has 225,XXX miles on her and runs like a charm. I've heard these Jeeps last well over 300,000. Here's the problem -> When driving at low speeds I hear a whirring noise from under the floorboard, like the trans or differential I'm guessing. It goes away when she shifts into 3rd gear and I don't hear it again until I slow down to 10-15mph. It doesn't happen in neutral, but it does it in reverse. When I put it in third gear I hear it though until I accelerate past 30mph. I am puzzled at which shop to take it to. Please help!! I really don't want to sell her.

sounds like your low/reverse gears are worn in the tranny. could still run for a lot more miles.

do you think if i change the fluid and filter that will help or am i wasting my time? i am scared to drive it with that sound, b/c i am afraid i will make it worse. at 225,xxx miles it seems silly to put a tranny in but i heard these jeeps last to 350,xxx sometimes. don't know what to do!?! thanks for replying!
